Exercises to learn to live in the present

If we realize it, most of the time our mind is remembering or regretting the past or planning or fearing the future, but we spend very little time focused on what we do, on the Present. This happens not only when we do something almost automatic, such as walking or washing dishes, but even when we are carrying out a task that is interesting and even enjoyable for us.

We forget, however, that one of the great components of happiness is learning to live in the present, actually experiencing what we do, feel, eat, etc., in the present moment. By disconnecting from the present, we cut ourselves off from our own happiness. So that this does not happen, we can train our mind again to enjoy and live intensely the present moment through some simple exercises. Know below some exercises to learn to live in the present.

To walk barefoot.

It is not just about walking, but about walking barefoot and doing it consciously. To do this, all you have to do is take ten steps, without shoes or socks, directly on the ground. At each step, concentrate on feeling the ground, its hardness, its texture, the pressure it exerts on your feet, the temperature... Walk slowly, to allow the brain to register all these sensations and others that may appear.

Eat something you like.

Eat something that you like a lot, it can be a great exercise to learn to live in the present. It can be a strawberry, a piece of chocolate, whatever you want. Take it and look at it, observing its patterns, edges, roughness..., notice its texture, smell it and enjoy the smell. Then put it slowly in your mouth, savoring it slowly, being fully aware of all the sensations it produces. Feel the acidity or sweetness, the texture, how it melts in your mouth if it is chocolate, and focus on all the nuances you can notice.

At first it will not be easy to practice it, because our mind is used to wandering, but with a little practice you will notice how you will become more aware of each moment you live.
