What are Products in Process?

The products in process are those that are being manufactured, because each item that we buy in a store has behind it a process of production which is made up of several stages, but there are three that are elementary: collection, production and processing.

In turn, in each of them different sub-processes and mechanisms intervene that depend on the type of product to be produced and its quantity.

Production process

Factories are the places where the same item is made in batches or in series, which in this case is the product. This phase of creation is called the production process, and depending on what this element is, mechanical or chemical systems will be used to obtain the products in their final version.

Stages of the production process

In most cases, each phase of the

production process or elaboration of a product It is made up of a series of steps so that it can be carried out.

All of them require the use of raw materials, the intervention of specialized machinery, labor and supervision. These steps can be divided into three essential stages of the process:

1. Collection: It is the collection of the raw material from which the elements are going to be manufactured. At this stage, apart from raw material costs, warehouse and transportation costs should also be included. The most successful collection is the one that manages to gather the greatest amount of good quality raw material at the lowest cost, and for this it is necessary to carry out a prior investigation and comparison of vendors.

1. Production: In this stage the parts are assembled to obtain the final element or in an advanced state if it is a part that is going to be part of another product. In addition, in this phase it is very important to supervise the process to establish and comply with quality standards.

1. Processing: This is the last stage and is focused on the commercialization of the product. It includes variables such as storage, transport, distribution, and ideally a post-sale control follow-up to know the degree of customer satisfaction regarding the fulfillment of product quality standards and the fulfillment of set objectives.

Product status

As indicated above, the production process requires several stages to achieve a product ready for consumption. During each one of them, the elements that make up said product maintain a state, which can also be divided into three stages or phases:

1. Raw material: It is the product or part of it in its purest state, that is, it must be subjected to an industrial process in order to be marketed. From the raw material many products can be created. For example, in the case of wine, the main raw material would be grapes, among other ingredients.

1. Products in process: This state refers to the moment of transition between the raw material and the finished product, so it is an intermediate phase. These are the products that are partially ready, as they still require some alterations.

1. Finished products: For its part, this status corresponds to the product ready for consumption. Once the product in process concludes this phase, it is sent from the production area to the storage area, where it is stored, ending its production. That is, they are ready to be distributed.

What are products in process?

As we indicated above, the products in elaboration process They are the evolution of the raw material previously subjected to a modification procedure, but they cannot yet be classified as finished products because their development has not yet finished.

On the other hand, it should be taken into account that as a product increases in category or status, so does its value. That is, if an ingredient or element is added, a process of alteration of the raw material is carried out. Is used workforce, among others, increase production costs. This, in turn, should be included in the budget for this phase, so it also increases the value of the product in process.

Is it possible to market a product in process?

In theory, when a product goes on the market it is because it has already finished its manufacturing process, that is, it is already a finished product. Following this logic, the products in fabrication process cannot be traded per se; however, a finished product can serve as part of a work-in-process that is to be marketed in another way.

An example of this are each of the pieces that are needed to build a cell phone. There are companies that sell parts to assemble and that can only be supplied to a company if they are ready (finished product). In this sense, these pieces will become part of a new production process (product in process) until finally being part of a new total (finished product).

Why are products in process important?

In this state, the resources or raw material they are processed to increase their value. Its main importance would be the profit obtained, but also the supervision that is carried out during the procedure to optimize the quality of the product, so that it is possible to meet the standards of the clientele and at the same time better satisfy their demand.
