Classified by the amount of workers

  • Micro-enterprise (which employs between 1 and 4 workers);
  • Small company (which employs between 5 and 49 workers);
  • Medium Company (employing between 50 and 199 workers)
  • Big company (employing more than 200 workers)

By the level of sales

In the case of Chile, the subdivision is as follows:

  • Micro-enterprise (annual sales are less than 2,400 UF)
  • SMEs to companies that are in the range of UF2,400 and UF100,000.
  • Big enterprises (with annual income equal to or greater than 360,000 UTM)

 Economic activity companies

  • Extractive: They are those that provide raw material to other industries, for example, fishing, agriculture, hunting, exploitation of forests and quarries, etc.
  •  Industrial or manufacturing: They are dedicated to the production of goods, through the transformation of the raw material through manufacturing processes, for example, electricity, water, manufacturing, etc.
  •  Commercial: Those that are dedicated to the purchase and sale of finished products, such as warehouses, bookstores, pharmacies, supermarkets, etc.
  •  Financial: They are the specialists in the financial system who make loans to people and organizations. Examples of these are the Banks
  • Service companies: They are dedicated to the provision of non-tangible services, such as transportation, cleaning, etc.

Asset constitution companies

  • Public: Such as Government Institutions, Autonomous Institutions, Municipalities.
  •  Private: Those that are dedicated to the production of goods and / or services while seeking profit, and their capital is made up of contributions from private individuals.
  •  Mixed Companies: In which there is a collaboration between the state and the private sector, acting jointly in the formation of their capital (Corfo, Aguas Andinas, etc.).

Administration Companies

  • Self-managed: those that are administered by their workers, that is, they are the ones who make the decisions that affect the company.
  • Centralized Companies: in which decisions are made by those who are at the highest levels of management, concentrating authority over the company's resources.
  • Decentralized Companies: where authority is distributed in the administrative structure, through the process of delegation, by individuals who occupy different levels in the administrative hierarchy.
  • Hetero-managed: those in which decisions are made by people outside the activities of a production process.
