BIC creates great controversy with its 3,000 ignition lighter

About 33 months ago, a controversial Controversy at the BIC company over 3,000 ignition lighters, but apparently, this will come to an end in a short time after so much waiting.

This company produces more than 7 million lighters and pens daily, around the world since year 1973 when it was founded and has managed to sell about 30,000 million among the 160 countries where its products.

During last Wednesday, a court in Mexico granted him the reason saying that his advertisements did not mislead consumers, after it was possible to verify that it really does accommodate a total of 3,000 ignitions, which is equivalent to the same amount of matches.

How did BIC deal with this legal process?

The legal victory of this case dates back to 2015, where the company faced a complaint that was presented directly by the National Chamber of the Match Industry before PROFECO (Federal Attorney's Office of the Consumer).

During it, it was argued that the advertising campaign that the French brand was using was full of images and statements misleading that seriously confused consumers, going against Article 32 established in the Federal Law of Protection of the Consumer.

After a tough judicial and administrative process that has lasted approximately 32 months, the Second Collegiate Court in Administrative Matter of the State of Mexico made the announcement stating that BIC's advertising is accurate, true and correct. Some tests were carried out in PROFECO's laboratories, and they concluded that indeed, the comparisons between these lighters and the matches were legal and fair.

After the decision in favor of the trademark was given, the Court of Second Instance revoked the fine initially imposed of 22,000 euros, which was charged to BIC Mexico on May 2, 2018.

The company, very grateful that justice was done, expressed its satisfaction with the decision taken and reaffirmed its commitment to the current market in the country.
